Superb swimming at Mallow Invitational

MALLOW SWANS INVITATION GALA

A large squad of Fermoy Swimming Club swimmers from across our competitive squads headed off to Mallow to their invitation gala on Friday 19 and Saturday, April 20. There were a mixture of swimmers entering, from those swimming their first gala to the seasoned pros.

David Noonan got Fermoy off to a flying start by swimming a great personal best and winning the bronze in the 200m Free. He then went on to win bronze in the 200m Butterfly.

Bartosz Lipinski was our next swimmer and boy was he on fire winning gold in the 200m Free and gaining his National Division 2 time. He then went on to repeat this in the 100m Fly as well as winning the gold in the 200m IM just missing his Division 2 time by a mere second – a fantastic swim. Luca Salvatori did the double by winning the silver in the 200m and the 100m Breast.

Amy Hawe got off to a super start by winning the silver in the 200m Free following up with the same in the 50m Free and the 100m Free. Alice O’Donnell swam a good time in her 200m IM and 100m Backstroke. Sophie Baker got a PB in the 100m IM and just missed out on the medals, coming in 4th place. She put this to rights by winning bronze in the 50m Breaststroke.

Nefeli Pyrovolaki swam a fast 200m Free to gain a substantial PB and just missed out on the medals by placing 4th in the 200m Backstroke. Younger sister Melina was up next winning silver in the 200m Breast and was only 2 seconds off her Division 2 time – not bad for a first swim. Clodagh Whelan swam a PB in her 200m Free gaining her Development 2 time. Eabha Burke literally flew in her 200m Butterfly, coming in first to win the gold medal.

Ryan Ates swam a fantastic 100m IM achieving a brilliant PB and winning silver. Not content with one silver he added another in his 100m Fly as well as his 100m Free, where he just missed out on his Division 2 time by 1 second. Ethan Armstrong swam a courageous 100m IM in his first ever Munster gala and followed this with 50m Free – well done Ethan.

Oisín Morrison swam a PB in his 100m IM and his 50m Breaststroke qualifying him as a Development 2 swimmer. Siun Carey swam a super PB in her 100m IM getting closer to her Development 2 time. Siun gained her Development 2 time in her 50m Back winning a bronze medal to boot. She also gained her Dev 2 time in her 50m Breast, just missing out on a medal and coming in 4th.

A personal best in the 100m IM followed by a fantastic PB from Fiona Miao in the 50m Back secured her the gold position. Not satisfied with one gold, Fiona went on to win gold in the 50m Free and 100m Free as well as silver in the 50m Breast.

Meabh Lee swam a tremendous PB in her 100m IM smashing the Development 2 time, following that with a Development 2 time in the 50m Back and completed her Development 2 haul with the 100m Free. Well done Meabh you are now an official Munster Development 2 swimmer.

Zach Daniels-Howard got off to a winning start with a silver in the 50m Free, followed by a bronze in the 100m Fly and 200m IM. Luke O’Shea gained a good PB in his 50m Free and in his 100m Back, winning gold and getting his Development 2 time. Well done Luke – you also swam a good 100m Breast and 100m Free time gaining other Development 2 times.

Maria Murphy swam well in the 50m and 100m Free. Alexandra Ohrim swam in the 50m Free and 100m Breast. Adam Duggan also got off to a flying start, winning gold in the 100m Fly and followed up with gold in the 100m Breast and 200m IM, finishing his collection with a silver in the 100m Back. Rory Gill swam a good 100m Fly, knocking off seconds in his 200m IM.

Jack Duggan, back after injury, swam a fantastic pb and Division 1 time in his 100m Fly. He now needs to swim the time long course to be eligible for Div1, but he picked up a bronze medal on the way and moved up to silver in the 50m Fly – great comeback Jack, well done.

Oran Hegarty was a first timer who succeeded in winning a silver in his 50m Back and gained his Development 2 time. He went on to swim a good 100m Free and once again got his Development 2 time and silver in the 50m Breast. Mia Callanan swam a good PB in her 50m Back achieving her Development 2 time – Mia just missed her Development 2 time in the 100m Free and 50m Breast.

Mary O’Donnell swam a brilliant 50m Back, gaining not only gold but also her Division 2 time. Naoise Hegarty won silver in the 100m Breast, she then went on to win the gold medal in her 200m IM and 100m Backstroke. Lauren Kiely swam a super PB in her 100m Free gaining her Development 2 time, she also had a PB in her 50m Breast.

Zoe Daniels-Howard swam a shining performance winning gold in the 100m Back. Also shining bright yellow was Jodie Baker who won gold in the 50m Breast and getting ever closer to that golden time.
