The Gerry Ryan long course open meet was held from Friday 17 to Sunday, January 19. This was the first long course racing outing of the season for the 25 swimmers of FSC who looked to put down some positive swims and potentially qualify for the 2020 Irish National Division 2 and the Irish Summer National Championships.
With plenty of personal best times and a podium performance, Fermoy swimmers stepped up to achieve 32 pbs. Jodie Baker claimed an impressive 6 medals at the meet (4 silvers and 2 bronze) and 12 swimmers achieved most, if not all of their national qualification times in a very positive weekend of racing.
A special mention of the great performances from our junior and senior relay teams who took part in the mixed individual medley. The junior relay team of Zach, Sophie, Amy and Ryan took bronze on Saturday morning, showing the senior relay team how it’s done!
Fermoy Swimming Club would like to congratulate all the swimmers for their brilliant swimming over a very busy weekend of racing and would also like to extend sincere thanks to the team managers for their excellent help and support to the team at the meet.
Thanks to coach Joann Baker for her great support of the swimmers over the 2 days, after each of the 91 swims by our team she was there, clipboard and stopwatch in hand, with analysis and advice and encouragement for the next race. A busy weekend indeed!
Best of luck to our swimmers who are heading to Thurles this Sunday for the Munster Development 1 meet #swimfast. If any competing swimmers need to purchase a club teeshirt please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Price €20.
