Impressive performances from Grade 3 swimmers at UL

On Saturday, 14th January, 23 Fermoy Swimming Club swimmers headed to U.L. to compete in the Munster Grade 3 Gala. This was a huge gala as all clubs were attending making the chance of winning any medal very difficult.

For the following swimmers, it was their very first Munster competitive gala and they all swam very well making their club extremely proud of them: Peter Verling, Cathal Walsh, Bartosz Lipinski, Pierce Riordan, Patrick Kenny, Sophie Baker, Eabha Corcoran. Sophie Baker achieved her Munster Grade 2 time in her 50m Breast amazing for a first gala.

Gemma O’Brien won Silver in the 50m Back as well as gaining her grade 2 time. Zach Daniels-Howard took 4.49 seconds off his personal best to fly to his grade 2 time in his 50m Butterfly. Ciara Clancy was also in flying form hitting her Grade 2 time in her 50m Fly and her 100m IM – only one more time now Ciara and you will officially be a Munster Grade 2 swimmer.

Mai McMahon took off an outstanding 14.82 seconds to achieve her Grade 2 time in her 100m I.M. winning Silver in the process, she must have had a great breakfast as she took off 6.44 secs from her 50m Back time and 5.20 secs off her 50m Breaststroke time. Darragh Gill swam a good P.B. to gain his Grade 2 time in the 100m IM winning a Bronze Medal for his efforts.

Gearoid Carey took 3.19 seconds from his 50m Breaststroke time to achieve his Munster Grade 2 time and winning the Gold medal. Ben Terry swam a great 100m IM knocking off an impressive 8.20 seconds to win the Gold medal he also swam a good PB in his 50m Back to bring home the bronze.

Naoise Hegarty, Nefelia Pyrovolaki and Clodagh Whelan are relatively new to the competitive scene but took off incredible times of -10.16, -12.91 and -10.16 from their 100m Freestyle – they must have eaten the same for breakfast as Mai.

Rory Gill kept the boys side up by gaining a very respectful 5.31 P.B. in his 100m Freestyle. Liam Og Hegarty just missed out on his Munster Grade 2 time in the 100m Free by 0.67 seconds, never mind Liam Og you will nail it next time.

Maeve Callanan and Claire Linehan also both got P.B.’s in their 50m Backstroke.  Oisin Morrison swam an excellent PB in his 50m Fly of 6.03 secs and 2.83 on his 100 I.M. Emily Darrer-Dalton also swam a PB in this event.

Well done to all the swimmers and a big thankyou to parents for travelling and supporting our swimmers and aiding the running of the gala.

Also, a big thank to Coach Paula Finn who encouraged all the Fermoy swimmers to do their best on the day.
