Great results for Fermoy swimmers at Grade 2 gala

MUNSTER GRADE 2 GALA

On November 19th 19 swimmers from Fermoy Swimming Club set off to Mallow to put into action all the things they have learnt within their training program, hoping that all their hard work would pay off. They were not to be disappointed as those who had trained achieved their reward with some great results.

Clodagh O’Brien gained her Munster Grade 1 official time with PB’s and qualifying times in 200m Free, 100m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly. She also won a bronze medal in the 100 Fly, 100m Back and 100m Free.

Anna O’Keeffe swam a cracking 200m Free to achieve her Grade 1 time in 200m Free and 100m Breaststroke winning a gold in this event. Only one more event to go Anna and then you can call yourself a Grade 1.  Hannah Fenton got her Grade 1 time in her 200m Free picking up a bronze medal with it.

Kay O’Sullivan matched Hannah with her Grade 1 time in the 200 Free and added 100m Breaststroke Grade 1 time. Cess Kouwenberg swam a PB and gained his Grade 1 time in his 200m Free just being pipped for a medal as he came in fourth, being a fighter he came back to achieve his Grade 1 time in his 100m Backstroke and won gold, one more time to get Cess!

William Verling had great success winning a bronze medal in the 200m Free, 100 Back and gaining his Grade 1 time in this event. Oisin Finn got his Grade 1 time in the 100m Breaststroke and also won a silver medal in the 100m Fly. Adam O’Grady swam a brilliant 100m Breaststroke winning a gold medal and gaining his Grade 1 time. Jack Duggan also achieved his Grade 1 time in this event, and took off 8.21 secs in his 200m Free.

Well done to Emma Forrester who knocked off 9.43 seconds to win bronze in the 200m Individual Medley. As Cillian’s coach, I was very disappointed that he only managed to knock off 26.10 seconds in his 100m Fly – of course I am joking! What a PB well done Cillian.

Marc Callanan is chipping away at his 200m Free time with a PB in this event. Leah Fitzgerald, not to be outdone by her brother, swam a good 3.46 PB in her 100m Breast. Niamh Clancy also achieved a 1.82 PB in this event.

Cian McGirr knocked off 2.53 seconds in his favourite Breaststroke. It was Liam O’Brien’s first grade 2 Gala and he swam some great times in his events as well as John Lonergan, Emma O’Grady and Declan Morrison.

Well done to all our swimmers and a big thankyou to all parents who travelled and helped with the running of the Gala. Also thanks to our coach Paula Finn for supporting the swimmers on the day under very difficult circumstances, well done!
