Great performances at TigerSharks Gala

Fermoy swimmers set off to Tipperary to compete in their 4th Invitation Gala. The atmosphere is always very friendly and the gala is always well run so Fermoy swimming coaches decided that this was a good gala to introduce some of our swimmers to the world of competitive swimming.

The first-timers did extremely well and represented the club impressively, so congratulations to Cassie Whelan, Kayla Whelan, Isabelle O’Brien, Nathan O’Flynn, Melina Pyrovolaki and Sam O’Brien. Sam O’Brien deserves a special mention with his spectacular swim in the 100m Breaststroke winning the gold medal – what a way to start your career!

Liam Og Hegarty took 1.01 seconds off his 100m Free and an incredible 8.93 seconds off his 100 IM time to gain his official Munster Grade 2 qualification. Well done Liam Og.

David Noonan took 7.34 seconds off his 100 IM time to finish in first place to collect a gold in this event to add to his silver in the 100m Fly and bronze in the 100m Free and 100m Back.

Caitlin Jackson won gold in the 100m Breast. William Verling swam a great 100m back to win the silver medal. Mai McMahon won silver in the 50m Fly.

Peter Verling must be a bit of a magpie loving the shine of the silver as he finished second in the 50m Breast and 50m Free.

Zach Daniels-Howard was also keen on the shine winning silver in the 100m IM and 100m Free but decided he preferred gold for the 50m Fly.

The Fermoy swimmers were on fire with their freestyle knocking off the seconds to beat the band. Ciara Clancy took 6.55 off, Eabha Corcoran 4.03, Geroid Carey 3.65, Cathal Walsh 6.82, Bartosz Lipinski 8.00, Declan Morrison 4.95 and Oisin Morrison 1.36. Nefelia Pyrovolaki took 2.56 seconds off her 50m Backstroke.

Well done to all the swimmers, I’m sure you all enjoyed the Gala. I know according to one swimmers mum, her son said it was ‘the best day of his life’ and it was his first gala. This brought a big smile to Jackie Power’s face who was attending as coach for the day.

A big thank you to all the parents who attended and helped on the day. Your help was very much appreciated especially with the new swimmers.
