A final splash for Mary with Swimmer of the Year award

We held our annual awards ceremony last Friday evening in Fermoy Community Youth Centre, and a large group of swimmers and their parents turned out to mark another very successful swimming year for Fermoy Swimming Club.

We will carry a full list of award winners in our notes next week, and would like to congratulate everyone who received their swim certificates last Friday also. A great evening was had by all.

Mary O’Donnell, one of our most senior swimmers from the Torpedo squad, was named as our 2019 Swimmer of the Year, to great applause from the delighted crowd.

Mary has been a dedicated member of Fermoy SC for many years, and is a real inspiration to our younger swimmers with her attention to her training and gala participation rate.

Even though she is currently sitting her Leaving Certificate, Mary is still seen at every training session giving it her all, and will be heading to the Division 2 National Championships this summer to take on her favoured backstroke events once more.

As she heads to college in September Mary will move on from Fermoy SC, but we hope her love of swimming stays with her and we wish her all the very best for the future. Congratulations on the award Mary, well deserved.

MICHAEL BOWLES

Best of luck to our 13 swimmers who are heading to the Michael Bowles Invitational (Sunday’s Well SC) at the Gus Healy pool, Douglas this weekend. Warm up on Saturday and Sunday is at 8am, with the first race in the water at 9am.

This is always a very busy and competitive gala, and any time our club make the journey to Douglas we have a great experience, so here’s looking forward to another one.

Good luck to all those still chasing those elusive Div2 times. The team manager rota is on the club website.

COMMITTEE MEETING

Our final committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 18 at 8pm in Fermoy Resource Centre. It is hoped that all committee members will attend for the final meeting of the season, as we plan ahead for next season.

Also anyone who is interested in getting involved in the committee is very welcome to come along.

MUNSTER LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Our swimmers had a very successful meet at the Munster LC in UL last weekend, we will carry a gala report and some photos in next week notes. Well done all!
