Primary Schools Gala a huge success

Fermoy Leisure Centre was the place to be last Friday morning, as 257 children from 17 local primary schools, competed in the annual Synergy Credit Union Primary Schools Gala.

The Gala is kindly sponsored by Synergy Credit Union, Fermoy, and run by Fermoy Swimming Club in association with Fermoy Leisure Centre.

Racing kicked off at 10am, and for the next 3 hours we saw some fantastic swimming from our young competitors.

The atmosphere was wonderful, as schoolmates cheered each other on in the individual events, with the excitement reaching fever-pitch for the end of session inter-school relays.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, and a special word of praise to anyone who was having their first go at competitive swimming. Keep up the practice!

THANK YOU

An event of this size couldn’t be run without the help of parent volunteers, and we would like to say a sincere thank you to our timekeepers, line up officials and stewards.

Thanks also to our club committee members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organise the event, both in the weeks leading up to the gala, and on the day itself. Thanks to Philip and Angela, our super-efficient gala recorders, and to Coach Jackie Power for acting as starter and running the programme.

A special word of thanks to the hard-working staff of Fermoy Leisure Centre for their help and guidance for the swimmers on the day, and also to Cork County Council for their support in hosting this event.
